Aimless Wanderer

Hi everyone! Over the weekend I took some time to explore the city. I’m still new here and don’t really know anyone so I set out on my own with no destination in mind.


I ended up walking like 50 blocks down Lexington. I’d been taking the subway all week long, so I started walking because I wanted so see what was around!

I stopped in Gregory’s Coffee for a latte and a bite to eat. I sat for a bit and then I started walking again, the sky was looking gloomy but according to my weather apps there was 0 chance of rain. I popped in Lush and ended up getting trapped inside the store for about 40 minutes in a terrible rain storm. I tried a lot of different things out and I ended up buying the Movis bar, which is a face wash, and I bought an Oatifix face mask! This Lush was so cool because it had a spa in it! It definitely peaked my interest and got me thinking about getting a spa treatment there soon!

The rain calmed down a little bit and I was feeling bad that I had been walking around there store for almost an hour, so I ran across the street and went into Bloomingdales and walked around their for a bit because it started down pouring, and eventually I got trapped into getting a makeover from the a woman at the NARS counter. I’ve never used NARS before this and honestly I wasn’t the biggest fan. I didn’t like the tinted moisturizer or whatever she used on me, it looked off and didn’t really blend into my skin. There were a few things I did like but they were way to expense for not loving them.

It finally stopped raining for good and I left Bloomingdales and started walking again. I popped in some more stores as I walked, the I finally got to Grand Central Station, and I’d never been inside so I decided to pop in and explore a little bit!

Afterward I walked over to Bryant Park and walked around, the lawn was closed because of the rain, but I loved Bryant Park. There were so many things to do! They had ping pong tables, games to play, there was a big screen that was up for summer movies, there was a carousel, everything was so cool!

I kept on exploring and I hopped on the subway down to Washington Square Park, I walked around the park and then I explored Soho for a bit! I went in a bunch of stores, a couple of galleries, and I went in an artist/small vendor market. I walked and walked and walked some more and eventually ended up at Chelsea Market, I went in and walked around I bought a cookie for later and had a burger from Creamline. Then I went up to the High Line and walk for a bit. It was so beautiful up there as the sun was setting! I walked around a little more and then made my journey back home!

Week 1 In The Life Of A NYC Intern

Hey everyone! So as I mentioned in my last post, I just moved to New York for an internship with NBCUniversal!

I moved into my apartment on Sunday and man was it hot! It was about 97 degrees in the city, like no joke. I was dripping sweat, it was horrible! After a long day of moving and making a run to Target, I set my room up, took a shower, and went to bed.

Monday: I woke up around 7:30am and started getting ready. On day 1, I had to be at work at 10am. It took me a while to get ready this morning because I was really nervous. I never know what to wear on the first day. I ended up wearing black pants and a green shirt with black ballet flats.

I walked over to the subway took it down to 51st and walked over to 30 Rock. I was a bit early so I grabbed Starbucks and then headed over to the welcome center.


Including myself, there are three interns for this semester in our department. When I got to the welcome center one of the other interns was there and two current interns came down to meet us. We went up to our department, we were given our intern manuals, and we started learning how to do things. I learned sooo much on day 1! I really like this internship because I’m working in a small department and I get to work closely with the people who are in charge of the entire department. I’ve already learned so much and done so much and I’ve only been there for 5 days! But that’s jumping ahead.

We worked on the daily tasks we have to do everyday and the current interns taught us all of the software and what not that we needed to do. We headed to the NBC Commissary for lunch, which was so cool, there a ton of memorabilia and pictures of the old photos, and there’s a bunch of TVs everywhere so we were watching like four different Olympic events at once. I left work around 6 and headed back home.

When I got back home, I changed and walked a few blocks to find a grocery store. I did some shopping and then headed back to the apartment. I was exhausted after a long day of learning and walking. I Facetimed with my boyfriend and then I went to bed.

What I learned Day 1:  DON’T WEAR FLATS IF YOU DON’T NORMALLY WEAR FLATS! Or just don’t wear ballet flats. I have THE worst blisters on my heels and my toes and the sides of my feet. Just everywhere. Wear a change of shoes and change before you get to work.

I learned a lot of different software and tasks that I had no idea were even typical tasks we would have to do. I’d never done marketing before so I wasn’t really sure of what it entailed.

Tuesday: Day 2 and I woke up pretty early again. I got ready for the day. I wore a pair of navy patterned pants, a white t-shirt, and Jack Rogers sandals. I could not bare to wear anything over the blisters on my heels. And the VP of our department was wearing sandals the day before so I figured it was okay if I wore sandals too. She actually commented and said that she really liked my sandals and that Katie Couric had a pair when she worked at NBC.

I got to work at 9:30. I got to work more hands on today. The day before I mostly watched the summer interns and learned how to do things, so this day I worked on the computer and she watched on to help me as I needed.

Wednesday: I got to work a little early this morning so I walked around the concourse and went to The Paper Source, which is one of my favorite stores, I’m obsessed with stationary! I got a really cute card to send Matt. Then I headed up to the office, and started working on our daily tasks. In the afternoon, we had a Skype meeting with the West Coast team. We prepped for the next day and then we got to leave work!

After work two of the girls I work with and I went to a place called S’MAC that makes mac and cheese from your dreams! I had hamburger mac and cheese! Then on my way home I went to Emack and Bolios and got an amazing ice cream cone! I got Cookie Monster in a Rice Krispie cone. It was amazing.


Thursday: This morning I didn’t have time to eat breakfast so I grabbed a bagel from a food truck on the way to work. This day was that last day for one of the summer interns (and Friday was the last day for the other summer intern), we ordered barbecue for lunch and had a work meeting lunch. Then when we later in the afternoon we had ice cream and they gave her a going away card and present.

Friday: The last of our two mentors (the summer interns) had his last day, it was sad for us newbies and kind of nerve-racking that the person who had all the answers to our questions would be gone for good. I got to work super early this day so I went to the commissary and grabbed something to eat for breakfast.

We worked away on our daily tasks and sent out all the things that needed to be sent, later in the day we got brownies for the interns going away gesture because he loves brownies, they were super good! We all sat and talked for a bit about advice from past interns to new interns before the end of the day and then we got to go home.

I didn’t want to go home after work so I wander around a bit. I discover the location of this waterfall because I just stumbled upon it! I’d seen this on Pinterest and it was so cool to just wander upon it.


I decided to go over to the TKTS booth in Times Square and see how much a ticket for Finding Neverland would be. I got an awesome ticket for like $80! It was about 6:30 at this time and I was really hungry so I walked around looking for a spot to grab something to eat really quick! I went to the Iron Bar and I got Crab & Waffles! It was super yummy!



After I ate, I went over to the theater and headed in. Finding Neverland is closing August 21st and I really wanted to see it before it closed. It was SO good! I love the story of Peter Pan and always have, it has been one of my favorite things since I was really young.


It was so great! I laughed! I cried! The songs were great, the story was great, the actors were great. MY HEART! I cried like 5 times! I loved Tony Yazbeck as James M. Barrie, I loved Paul Slade Smith as Charles Frohman! Everyone was amazing! All the kids, the entire cast! Like that musical broke my heart, I was weeping. I’m so glad that I got to see it before it closed.

After the play I headed home and went to bed after a long, long week.

I’m Moving!!

I recently was offered an amazing internship opportunity and this weekend I’m moving….




I’m seriously so excited! And nervous! I move in on Sunday and I start my internship on Monday! I’m going to be there through mid-January and I already have a list of so many things that I want to do! I’m going to be posting my NYC bucket list here in the next couple of days! If anyone has any recommendations of things I definitely cannot miss let me know!

This will be my first time living in a big city and I’m super excited about all of new food, museums, shows, things to see, places to run, just everything!


Martha’s Vineyard

This past weekend we were down the Cape for a family party on Saturday and decided to take a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard. We took the ferry out of Falmouth, the Island Queen. I love this ferry because it’s only $20 round trip and it takes you right to the heart of Oaks Bluff, which if you’re just going for the day is a great place to be because it is where all of the touristy things are and you’re in walking distance to buses, bike rentals, moped rentals, taxis, and car rentals.

We walked around Oaks Bluff for a bit, we hit up The Black Dog Cafe and I got an iced Alabama latte, and man was it delicious. I was too busy downing the whole thing in one gulp to even take a picture of that beautiful creation.

We continued to walk around and poke in shops and decide what we wanted to do. We stumbled upon this store called Captain’s Club. It was so cool and if you bought something you get to sign your name anywhere! On the walls, the floors, the ceiling, etc. I loved that the walls in their fitting room was cover in coasters, it was so cool.

All morning we had been torn between renting bikes or renting a moped, but the major issue was if we wanted to rent a moped we needed to have closed-toed shoes, which neither of us did. This is a big thing in MV (and probably every where they rent mopeds): IF YOU WANT TO RENT A MOPED YOU NEED CLOSED-TOED SHOES! So plan accordingly because we did not and we both ended up having to buy closed-toed shoes. I got cute gold sparkly ones.

We rented our moped and headed off to Edgartown to look around and explore and then headed up to Vineyard Haven to grab lunch at The Black Dog Tavern. We snuck in about 45 minutes before they closed for lunch so we ordered quick, gobbled up our food, and headed out! I got the Vineyard Cobb salad and it was so good, and I got their house sangria white and that was amazing as well!

We headed back to Oaks Bluff to drop off our moped, grabbed some ice cream, and then waited it out for the next ferry cause we were beat. It was such a fun day. I had never been on a moped before so that was really fun too!


New York City Weekend


A few weeks ago, I headed to New York City with my mom to checkout a Pixar exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum before it closed! If you like design, I highly recommend the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. It was awesome, and it was only $9 with a student ID. SCORE!

We saw Trip of Love, checked out the Top of the Rock, the Brooklyn Bridge, Ice & Vice, and the High Line. I got the black dress I’m wearing at Target and honestly it’s one of my favorite dresses I’ve ever own and it’s only $20! I went back and got one in another color for $10 yesterday!

It was a fun weekend trip for us, we tried a lot of new things. Normally we end up doing the same things every time we’re in the city, so it was nice to mix it up. I love the braids that I did this weekend. I love the double dutch cross into crossed fishtails, it always looks so cute.

You guys will never believe what happened to me in the subway! We were waiting for our train to come and I felt something fall on my head. I was extremely puzzled. There was this light-weight pressure on my head so I flicked it away. It was a cockroach, A COCKROACH! It flew away to a near by trash can. I kid you not, this thing was bigger than the full size of my thumb! It was huge! It was a little monster! I debated shaving my whole head off after this traumatic incident, but decided against it. Really though, I am scarred.


Life Lately

This summer has really flown by for me. I worked as summer camp counselor at a day camp nearby and it has really made the days go by fast.

Here’s a little recap of what I did this summer!

4th of July

For the Fourth we headed up to Old Orchard Beach. We rented a house on HomeAway for the weekend and had some friends come up too. It was a lot of fun, it was our first time using any website like HomeAway or AirBnB and we had a really great experience with it.


We went fishing off a jetty, I got my line caught in the rocks and spent the whole time trying to free it. We spent the Fourth at the beach all day and then had lobsters and steak for dinner, it was great! It was so nice to get away for a weekend.

While we were in OOB, Matt and his friend were playing frisbee down by the water at the beach and he jumped in to catch the frisbee and lost his good sunglasses. We spent so long searching for them in the water, but the waves had to have taken them. I was so bummed they were gone. Losing things always bums me out.

Summer Hair & Cape Cod


A couple of weeks ago, we went to Cape Cod to visit my family and we caught a Cape Cod League baseball game while we were out there.


Hiking Mt. Monadnock 


A few weekends ago, we had Matt’s friends up for a visit and we all went and hiked Mt. Monadnock. This was something I had wanted to do since we moved up her and we picked a great day for it. There was a big rain storm the night before so it had cooled off quite a bit and we had nice cool weather for the hike. We used walking sticks that one of our friends had made and they were super helpful! It was a great hike! We went up the white dot trail and down the white cross. The white dot has a lot of rock faces that you have to climb up basically on all fours.

Life is pretty crazy lately, I’m a camp counselor so there is never a dull moment, or a free moment, during the day.

Per usual I’ve got that travel itch and wish I could go everywhere in the world. Before I go I have to tell you a story. The other night Matt was cooking dinner, four frying pans going all at once, and we had the door was open cause it was so nice outside and SUDDENLY a huge dragonfly, I mean bigger than the size of my hand, flies right into the house. Now you might be thinking oh that’s not so bad, it’s just a dragonfly, yeah maybe to you, but for me on the other hand no. I am deathly afraid of all insects that fly, especially dragonflies. I’m not even joking.

So there is this huge dragonfly in my house flying all about and I’m hyperventilating and basically in tears. Broom in hand swatting at it to try to get it to go back out the door, but it just won’t. I tried, crying, for about 5 minutes before Matt finally took over. He got it out like a champ. He could be a professional dragonfly getter-outer.

So here’s to hoping no dragonflies fly into your house and that you all have a great weekend!


6 Tips for Anxious Runners

6tips.pngI am a self proclaimed nervous Nancy, a worry-wart, a scared Sally. Honestly I get nervous about the littlest things and always think about the absolute worst things that could possibly happen.

When I first started running, even running in my small hometown, scared me. As I moved to college and now to a new state, I have come a long way to overcome my anxiety when running! I love to run, but I’m always very conscious that a lot of things can go wrong when you run. I also watch way too many crime and doctor shows and have just too wild of an imagination.

Whether you’re a anxious runner also or you’ve just started out running here are my tips for safe running!

Tip One: Stranger Danger! 

When I’m running, everyone is a stranger. I don’t care if you’re a 90 year old grandmother or a 6 year old kid, I don’t know you, I don’t know your life, and I’m not definitely not going to interact with you. If another runner smiles at me, sure I’ll smile back or like nod, because other runners don’t scare me because like they’re a runner, I’m a runner, we’re going it opposite directions at fast paces, nothing bad can happen, right? I know it can seem a little extreme, but honestly whether you live in a big city or a small town you always need to be aware of other people, drivers, and everything about you. When I run on trails, if I walk past someone going the opposite direction, I honestly check over my shoulder just to make sure they didn’t decide to start following me. I’m crazy I know, but I’d rather be crazy and feel safe. I don’t trust animals either, like sorry mr. turtle but like get away from me. 

When I first started running, in my small town of like 8,000 people most of whom I knew personally, I was running down the road I lived on, about a mile from my house, and a car drove past me and then pulled over and stopped. I WAS SO SCARED. My heart dropped. I turned around and sprinted home. Later that night, I found out it was my best friend, she had just gotten a new car and she saw me and stopped to say hi. In that moment, though, I had no idea who that person was and I sure as heck was not going to continue running at it and figure it out.

Also, if a car stops and asks you for directions because they can’t find something (this happens sometimes), keep your distance from the car. Again, you don’t know these people. And if you really don’t feel comfortable just say “sorry I don’t know” and continue your run.

I don’t want you to be thinking that I’m always so incredibly worked up and nervous-all-the-time when I’m running, because I’m not. I’ve relaxed. I love running, it’s my happy place and my alone time. Sure when I first started I was scared the entire run of every single gust of wind, but now I’m not. Even if I do run past someone who I think looks intimidating to me I stay calm, I don’t speed up, I just become aware. If you get worked up or even speed, that’s going to make your heart race and get you flustered, and it will really mess up your run, in my opinion.

Tip Two: Drivers Don’t See You

It doesn’t matter how bright your outfit is or how noticeable you think you are. 90% of drivers ( I made that number up, but a lot of drivers) aren’t paying attention to their surroundings. Even if you’re in a crosswalk, make sure that they see you. Make eye contact. Driveways to things like banks are especially dangerous. It’s not that drivers are intentionally ignoring you, they could be looking the other direction, or simply just not see you. And yes if they hit you it’s there fault, but like you can also make sure to be aware of your surroundings and not run out in front a car that you don’t think is going to stop for you.

Tip Three: Always Tell Someone You’re On A Run

Whether it’s your mom, your best friend, or your boyfriend (not your dog sorry they don’t count this time), tell someone that you’re on a run. If anything bad were to happen at least one person would know you were gone and that’s why no one has heard from you in hours.

Tip Four: ICE Contacts

If you have an iPhone you have the “Health” app, within the Health app you can set up your medical ID and your emergency contact information. If you use a passcode you’ll notice that when your phone is locked and you’re on the screen where you can enter your passcode you’ll see “Emergency” in the bottom left corner. Click on that and it redirects you to an emergency call screen and on the bottom of that screen you see “Medical ID”. I love this feature because it makes me feel safe about if something were to happen on a run or at a race someone could look for that and know I have asthma and my allergies and who to call in a matter of seconds.

The Health app and medical ID function are a little less common, so it’s important to also have “ICE” or “In Case of Emergency” listed as a contact in your phone with the number of your emergency contact so someone can know who to call.

When I run in big road races or if I’m on vacation or just running in a new place, I wear my Road ID bracelet. These are a great and inexpensive precaution that you can take. When I do runDisney events I always make sure to wear this. You never know what can happen in a race. You can roll and ankle, pass out, literally anything. And this being on your wrist is very convenient, they’re not uncomfortable or itchy either and I like the skinny one because it doesn’t get in the way of my watch. These come in a ton of different colors and you can get little add ons to remind you of your goals or support a charity!

Tip Five: Run with a Friend 

If running alone makes you nervous, try to recruit a friend to run with you or find a running group in your area! If you have a running store rear you, chances are they have a weekly running group that is open to the public. Don’t be afraid to go to and join group runs.

Never, ever run in the woods alone. That’s like a major no-no. There are so many things that can go wrong in the woods. This one isn’t even just like if you’re a worry-wart, like no. You never run in the woods alone. Even my college coaches didn’t run in the woods alone. Like bring your friends, or at least a dog.

Tip Six: Run in Familiar Places

I have a rule for myself that I never run down a road I have never driven down, you never know what’s gonna be down there. Whether it’s a huge hill or a yeti you just don’t know! In my hometown where I lived my entire life up until leaving for college, I run on backroads that I am very familiar with and know every curve. Here in my new town, I run on main roads, down the downtown strip, and down the roads I drive down. There is so much of this town that I don’t know and I’m certainly not going to go exploring it on my own two tired little legs all alone when I don’t know where or what I’m getting myself into.

Maybe I sound a little crazy, but I think that a lot of people face anxiety about running. And you know what, I think it’s better to be aware that bad things can happen from rolling an ankle miles away from home to passing out in the heat to God knows what, and to be as aware and prepared as you can be. Strangers scare me and have from the time I was super young. Not that I’m paralyzed with fear by them (just don’t walk really close behind me, that freaks me out), I am just aware that not all people have good intentions. But hey I still go out and run and participate in the world! So I hope these tips have helped bring some peace of mind to any fellow nervous Nancys out there!

Summer Running Essentials


So unless you live in Antarctica or the Northern Canada, summer running can be a killer because of the heat. Here in the US of A it is starting to get pretty warm out, and I can only image that it’s going to get even warmer. With this warm weather comes the summer running essentials, and here are some of mine.

A couple months ago I shared with you My Running Essentials and most of those are still true but in the summer a couple other things become super important too!

Nike Tempo running shorts are THE only shorts I will run in. I find them so comfortable. I know some people don’t like the lining on the inside and refuse to wear them, but like I love these shorts so much I wear them almost everyday, whether I’m running or just in everyday life. These are my go to. You can get them anywhere, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, Nordstrom, literally anywhere!


The Champion Absolute Workout Sports Bra is my favorite sports bra for running. Personally, I have a little more boob than some people so I need more support, but I find that some of the “supportive” bras are too supportive and when I’m running they are squishing me and making me uncomfortable. This sports bra on the other hand is perfect. Also it is SPANDEX! Which in the summer is super necessary for me. I hate cotton sports bras, they make me feel so uncomfortable when they are super sweaty. Not about it.

Sunscreen! Sunscreen is of the upmost importance especially in the summer! Lately I’ve been using Sun Bum which I really like! I’m super pale and get burned easily and this works well for me and it’s  In the past I have used Neutrogena sport when I played softball and found it to work soooo well! Like honestly one of the best sunscreens ever. Sunscreen is so important for everyone! Even if you think you don’t burn easily it is just a protective measure that needs to be taken by everyone!

I like to wear a hat when I run, I really don’t like the sun in my eyes. I wear a Nike Golf hat that I got in Disney World a few years ago! I like spandex/sweat-wicking hats because I don’t like just regular hats when I run. These are a running hat (left) and a golf hat (right) that I found on Dick’s Sporting Goods that I thought were super cute.

Hydration! Hydration is KEY. This is a before and after running essential. I don’t carry water with me when I run. Having been a cross country runner I knew that I was going to have to run at least 3.1 miles with out water so I stopped running with water a few weeks into running. Also I just don’t like having to carry something heavy when I run! I bring a Nalgene bottle with me everywhere I go, and I use one of these little black sipper things. I have and LOVE this cup on the right. I found one last year (in Disney at EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival) and I fell in loveeee with it! Then someone knocked it off my desk and it broke and I cried for about a week. True story. Then I was in my university’s bookstore at the end of this year returning my books and I SAW ANOTHER ONE! It was AMAZING! I love cups with straws, and I find that I drink so much more when I’m sipping through a straw.


I love Spotify. I love making playlist. To me Spotify is so worth the money versus buying a bunch of songs or going through the process of downloading them all! And it give you the flexibility to choose your music rather than Pandora and the random stations.


DIXIE CUPS! If you’re like me and have shin splints these are SO helpful! Fill these up with water put them in the freezer and you have the perfect ice cups. I use these by running them on my shins and knees and wherever on my legs aches and they are so effective.
